Region : Yarra Valley, Australia
Varietal : 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes : The second vintage of this single-vineyard Cabernet is drawn from the east-facing Barkala Ridge vineyard, sited on the red Monbulk volcanic soils of Wandin East in the Upper Yarra, a vineyard recently named "Vineyard of the Year" at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards. Handpicked and destemmed to whole berries pressed, fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless tanks and left to on skins for 40 days extended maceration. It was then pressed to old French hogsheads for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered and unfined, with minimal sulphur additions. La Menace Rouge or "The Red Menace" is winemaker Gary Mills' reference to both the Cabernet grape and his dearly departed dog Rocket.
