Region: Tuscany, Italy
Varietal: 100% Sangiovese
Tasting Notes: Pure Sangiovese, the fruit of the estate’s oldest vineyard, a historic vineyard planted in 1935 at the behest of His Royal Highness Amedeo di Savoia Duke of Aosta, who owned the estate at the time. About 3 hectares of vineyard, entirely terraced by hand, positioned in the center of the estate at an altitude of about 300 meters, still give grapes that are loaded, complex, structured, rich in extract and nutrients. Given its uniqueness and in order to bring out the best of the peculiarities of this Cru, we start with a particularly soft and long maceration of about a month, aimed at enhancing all the noble components of the grapes, harvested at ideal phenolic maturity. It is then aged in large 15 and 25 hl barrels for about two years and at least one year in the bottle. Finally, it is not filtered, precisely to preserve all the varietal notes that are typical and characteristic of Sangiovese, but above all of the territory from which it originates. It is therefore bright ruby in color with garnet hues, a definite nose of leather and tobacco, along with notes of wild flowers and fresh fruit. The tannins in the mouth are present, but silky and velvety. Warmth, power and roundness complement a savory, mineral finish. Soil rich in marl, vinification in large oak barrels, long aging in the bottle without filtration, make it a wine destined to last, as does the vineyard from which it comes, a cru that will make history. Produced in limited editions since the 2012 vintage, with numbered bottles and only in the best vintages.
